This hearty beef stew recipe is one my Mom has been making for years and it's actually a recipe of her Grandmother's. So 4 generations of cooking love in this one.

Notes
Fork-Tender: If the fork pierces the meat easily (with almost no resistance) and can pull the meat apart, the meat is fork-tender.
Although veggies aren't usually described as fork-tender. Inserting a fork into turnips for instance can tell you if they are done.
Anything that is not yet cooked in the center will be very difficult to pierce with a fork and will not pull apart at all.
Ingredients
- 2-3 lbs stew meat, cut into 2" chunks
- 6-8 carrots cut into 1" slices or chunks
- 4 stalks celery cut into 1" thick slices
- 1 medium onion, diced into chunks
- 2 turnips, cut into 1-2" chunks
- 1 cup frozen peas
- 1 28 oz can of tomatoes (whole cut in half)
- 1 cup Sherry wine (or red wine if you don't have sherry)
- 1 Tbsp + Sauce Goddess Super Chunk Steakhouse seasoning
- 2 Bay leaves
- 1 Tbsp corn starch (or gluten free flour)
- Olive oil for cooking
- Optional-
- 1 one rosemary sprig
- 1 thyme sprig
- 2 red potatoes cut into chunks the same size as the turnips
Instructions
- Preheat over to 250.
- Season the meat with Super Chunk Steakhouse spices.
- Heat oil in the roasting pan.
- Brown meat lightly.
- Add wine and bay leaves.
- Place pan in the oven and bake for 2 hours.
- Toss the celery, onion, turnips and carrots in corn starch. Set aside.
- After 2 hours, add veggies (but NOT the peas) and optional herbs.
- Stir to combine and return the pan to the oven for 1 hour.
- After 1 hour, remove the pan from the oven.
- Check the meat (we're looking for fork-tender-see note) and veggies to see if they are done or close to done.
- If the meat is fork-tender, it is time to add the peas and check the seasoning. If the meat is not fork-tender, return the pan to the oven for another 30-45 minutes.
- There should now be a sauce in the pan along with the meat and veggies. Checking the seasoning is as simple as taking a small sample of the sauce and checking to see if it tastes good. Does it need salt, pepper? If so, add more Steakhouse seasoning.
- Repeat fork-tender test until the meat and veggies are cooked completely.
- Add the peas.
- Return the pan to the oven for a final 30 minutes.
- Remove the Bay leaves and the herbs.
- Serve hot!
