Celebrate Heros

Celebrate Heros

Hi all, it's Jennifer, the founder of Sauce Goddess. This past weekend I had the chance to give back. I thought I'd share with you.

I spend my summers in northern Michigan with my Mom. It's a small town of around 6,000 during the busy summer months. It's beautiful and right out of a Hallmark movie.

In a small town, it seems like there is always an opportunity to give back and make a difference. So this past Saturday I spent the day cleaning. More specifically, cleaning headstones in the local cemetery. Particularly the veteran headstones.

There were a lot from World War II. Some Vietnam and Korea. Since the cemetery goes back to the 1800's so I'm sure there were some folks who fought in the Civil War or the War of 1812, but that isn't noted on their headstone or grave marker like it is now. It's just my guess based on the dates on their headstones.

The whole process got me thinking about how nice it is to give back and have the chance to make a difference. I really like that feeling. We can do that anywhere, but it feels easier in a small town.
